Enjoy a comfortable half-day trip from Madrid with a licensed local guide and a brand-new Mercedes-Benz van with private driver. We pick you up directly at your hotel and head towards the foothills of the Guadarrama mountains to discover one of Spain’s most remarkable historical sites.

Our destination is the Royal Monastery of El Escorial, the vast granite complex built by King Philip II in the 16th century as palace, monastery and royal pantheon. Along the way, your guide introduces the history of the Spanish monarchy and the ambitions of the empire that shaped this remarkable place.

Inside El Escorial we explore the monumental basilica, royal rooms and the extraordinary Pantheon of the Kings, where generations of Spanish monarchs are buried beneath marble and bronze.

The journey also includes a visit to the Valley of the Fallen (Valley of Cuelgamuros), a striking monument set high in the mountains and dominated by one of the largest crosses in the world. Today it offers a powerful setting to understand a complex chapter of Spain’s twentieth-century history while enjoying the dramatic landscape of the Guadarrama range.
