Experience Madrid the way locals have enjoyed it for centuries: walking through historic streets, sharing food, wine and stories along the way.

On this private tapas tour you will explore the heart of the city while stopping at carefully selected traditional bars to enjoy four tapas and four drinks per person (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Between stops, your licensed local guide will introduce you to Madrid’s history, its neighborhoods and the traditions that shaped its cuisine.

The meeting point can be arranged either at your central hotel or at the Bear and the Strawberry Tree statue in Puerta del Sol, with the final details confirmed during the booking process.

The Experience

Depending on your hotel location and your interests, the experience can begin in the historic Literary Quarter (Barrio de las Letras) — once home to some of Spain’s greatest writers such as Cervantes and Lope de Vega. As we walk through these streets, we begin discovering how culture, literature and daily life shaped Madrid’s social traditions around food and drink.

From there we follow the rhythm of the historic city, exploring the area around Plaza Mayor, where medieval markets, royal ceremonies and stories of the Inquisition reveal a dramatic side of Madrid’s past. These same streets were once filled with merchants, taverns and travelers, and the traditions born there still define the city’s culinary culture today.

Along the route we stop at several carefully chosen local bars to enjoy traditional tapas paired with drinks of your choice. As we taste different flavors, your guide will explain how Spanish cuisine reflects centuries of cultural exchange, from medieval Christian kingdoms to Jewish and Moorish influences that helped shape the food we enjoy today.

The experience ends with a relaxed final stop in the historic center, where you can enjoy your last tapa and drink while receiving local recommendations to continue exploring Madrid’s food scene.
